Chapter 14

Thin, bare trees wrapped in a blanket of fog surrounded Hailey. She couldn’t remember how she got here or even what she was doing in a forest that she didn’t recognize. As she stood she ran her fingers through her long, wavy brown hair, pushing the unruly strands behind her ear. A booming neigh echo around her making her jump as the sound reverberated of the skinny trees. The figure of a horse stood quite a distance away from her staring at her intensely. She had a feeling that she knew this horse from somewhere, but she couldn’t place it. The horse disappeared as suddenly as he appeared as the fog began to lap at his legs.
The roaring noise returned and the striking gelding was suddenly rearing over Hailey’s head. She gasped, crashing to the floor, and staring at the horse’s icy blue eyes that stood out against his black face. The horse bowed his silvery blue neck, flaring our his jet black mane as if threatening her. A bold white band shone brightly on the gelding’s neck and Hailey suddenly recognized him.
“Agrona?” Hailey whispered and the horse was instantly gone. “Agrona! Come back.” She scrambled to her feet and looked around in a frenzy. Her eyes caught sight of a bulky figure to her right. It turned and cantered off. “Come back!” Hailey ran after him, struggling over the uneven ground. The horse disappeared into the fog before reappearing on her left and cantering away again.
She followed him through the bald trees, trying desperately to keep him in view. He disappeared into the mist again and Hailey pushed on faster, hoping to find him on the other side of the wall of fog. She skidded to a stop at the bank of a river. Its murky black water lapped at her feet as the center surged wildly down river. A small nicker  drove her attention up river where Agrona stood, waiting for her.
She approached him, stretching her hand out to him. He stood still as her hand set against his forehead, and blinked slowly in relaxation. Slowly he turned his head to look at the river, as if to tell her they had to cross it. Hailey took a deep breath and grabbed onto the broad gelding’s thick black mane, vaulting onto his back. The gelding turned and walked into the dark water fearlessly. The thick water reached up Agrona’s chest, lapping at his muscles and Hailey’s legs. The gelding never wavered, and continued to walk through the water as the fog wrapped around the pair, consuming them.
Super short chapter I know. I could have added this to either the last chapter or the next, but nope, not in my brain.
